Tuesday February 04, 2025
Update--Jeffrey Perez of Oxnard was 17 when he was arrested for murder in the shooting death of 29-year-old Donald Reyes Jr. of Newbury Park.
The shooting took place at Perez's birthday party on July 1, 2018 at an Oxnard hotel.
Tuesday, now 23-year-old, Perez walked out of the Ventura County Jail a free man after spending more than six years in custody.
Earlier in the day a jury had found Perez not guilty of murder and not guilty of the lesser charge of voluntary manslaughter.
The judge then ordered him released on his own recognizance.
Perez will have to return to court next week to deal with other alleged violations that happened while he was in custody.
