Updated--Ventura police are looking for the suspects in an armed robbery at a business late Friday night that ended with the employee being shot.
It happened around 11:30 PM at Sam's Smoke Shop in the 800 block of East Main Street.
This was the latest in a series of armed robberies of Ventura businesses during the past two weeks but the first time a shot has been fired.
In this latest crime, two suspects wearing masks, and one armed with a handgun, entered Sam's Smoke Shop and demanded money from the employee.
Police say as the employee was complying with their demand, the suspect with the handgun shot the employee.
The suspects then fled with the money.
Police, fire, and ambulance personnel responded to the scene.
As officers searched for the suspects, the victim was taken to VCMC and was treated for what police say was a non-life threatening gunshot wound.
The suspects managed to elude a search by officers including a K-9.
Police could offer no description of the suspects other than to say "unknown race males."
Ventura PD's Major Crimes Unit and Crime Scene investigators are now handling the case.
During the past two weeks, four Ventura businesses have been robbed by suspects with guns.
This is the first time a shot was fired.
