The Ventura County District Attorney's Office Tuesday filed a First Degree Murder charge against the Ojai Valley man who is accused of killing his roommate early Sunday morning.
Prosecutors further allege in a special allegation that 23-year-old Cameron Lykins of Meiners Oaks did it with a sledgehammer.
They say 22-year-old Houston Auer's body has not been found, but they received a 9-1-1 call Sunday from someone who said Lykins admitted killing Auer and they also say Sheriff's Major Crimes investigators found ample evidence both in the 1100 block of Meyer Road in Meiners Oaks and also in Lone Pine, California where they found Lykins and his pickup truck.
The authorities believe that after killing Auer, Lykins, he put the body in the pickup and drove to Inyo County and somewhere between there and here he disposed of the remains.
But they say Lykins is not cooperating with the investigators.
Lykins was in court briefly Tuesday to face the charges, but he did not enter a plea and his arraignment was continued to June 13th.
He remains in the Ventura County Jail with bail set at $2 million.
