Teen Will Be Tried As Adult For Oxnard Hotel Killing

Thursday September 13, 2018

A juvenile court judge Thursday ordered an Oxnard teenager to be tried in adult court for the killing of a man at an Oxnard hotel.

17-year-old Jeffrey Perez is accused in the shooting death of 29-year-old Donald Reyes Jr. of Newbury Park.

It happened on July 1st of this year at the Homewood Suites Hotel on Solar Drive in Oxnard.

Perez, who was born on July 1, 2001, was having his birthday party at the hotel.

Prosecutors say Perez and another person were acting in a way that got Perez thrown out of his own birthday party.

Perez returned and got into some sort of dispute with Reyes, who was one of those attending the birthday party, and prosecutors say that's when Perez is alleged to have fatally shot Reyes for no reason.

Perez will be arraigned on the murder charge in adult court on October 11th.

He remains in Juvenile Hall for now.
