Wednesday July 11, 2018

Simi Valley police say they've caught the serial car thief suspect they were looking for since an incident Sunday afternoon in which he is alleged to have intentionally smashed his stolen vehicle into a parked car, injuring a man he knows.

They say that the Ventura County Auto Theft Task Force (VENCAT) received information that 40-year-old Lawrence Huhne was in the city of Oxnard.

Shortly before 2 PM Wednesday afternoon, they located Huhne pumping gas into yet another stolen vehicle in the 1400 block of Channel Islands Boulevard.

Police say he tried to run but was captured following a short foot pursuit.

They say they later in Newbury Park, they found the other stolen vehicle Huhne is alleged to have used in the Sunday assault.

Police say Huhne, who is a transient, has a history of stealing vehicles and has been involved in pursuits with police in the past.

He's now in the Ventura County Jail charged with assault with a deadly weapon, vehicle theft, resisting arrest and several outstanding felony warrants.
