Oxnard police say that they arrested a 16-year-old for carrying a concealed loaded firearm in a vehicle Monday afternoon.

It started when officers stopped the vehicle at H Street and Second Street for a stop sign violation.

Police say the officers immediately detected the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle and had earlier observed the teenager in the right front passenger seat toss somthing out the window that turned out to be marijuana.

When officers conducted a "pat down" search of the 16-year-old the gun fell out of his pants.

The teen was booked into juvenile hall on the weapons charge.

The 20-year-old driver was also arrested for delaying a peace officer and having a passenger with a loaded handgun in the car.
