Oxnard Police Say They Arrested Gang Member With Gun

Sunday December 1, 2019

Oxnard police say they arrested a gang member with a gun but not before he ran and then fought with officers.

They say the incident began around 9:45 PM Sunday night in the 3100 block of Merced Place.

Police say their gang unit made a traffic stop and attempted to contact 22-year-old Ariel Medina Martinez of Oxnard.

They say during the stop, Martinez fled from the vehicle and there was a foot pursuit that ended with officers taking him into custody while he fought with them.

Officers say Martinez is a documented member of a criminal street gang who was in possession of an unregistered loaded handgun.

He was arrested on several firearms violations and also for resisting arrest.

Police say one of the officers suffered a minor injury during the struggle with Martinez.
