Oxnard Police say that after a vehicle and foot pursuit they arrested a gang member who was driving the vehicle with a loaded gun in hidden inside.

It happened shortly after 8:30 Saturday night in the area of Gallatin Place and Gonzales Road when officers tried to make a traffic stop for a vehicle code violation.

They say the suspect, 28-year-old Andrew Marquez of Oxnard, allegedly failed to yield.

That started a pursuit that traveled to the 2100 block of Mariposa Street where Marquez collided with an unoccupied parked vehicle.

Police say he then fled on foot but was caught in the area of Mariposa and Dahlia streets.

Officers say that Marquez is a documented criminal street gang member on probation for residential burglary so they searched his vehicle and found a loaded handgun in a hidden compartment in the vehicle.

Marquez was arrested on felony weapons and felony evading charges as well as misdemeanor hit and run driving.

He is in the Ventura County Jail with bail set at $150,00 and is due in court Tuesday.
