Oxnard Man Shot In Head, Doesn't Know It

Thursday July 12, 2018

Oxnard police are investigating an incident last night in which a man was shot in the head and didn't know it.

They say shortly before 11:30 PM, officers patrolling in the area of Doris Avenue and Ventura Road heard gunfire and started searching the area.

Meanwhile, police received a call from a citizen who reported a shooting in the 1300 block of Edgewood Way.

When officers arrived at that location they found a 56-year-old man with blood on his face.

The man told police the blood came from a wound caused by falling when he ran away from the gunfire.

The man said he was standing outside a parked car with a woman and child inside when another car drove up and there was a confrontation and someone in that other car started shooting.

One of the bullets shattered the window of the parked car and the 7-year-old girl inside was cut by flying glass.

She was treated at the scene for some cuts to her arm.

Meanwhile, the man who said he was injured when he fell, was taken to Saint John's Medical Center to be checked out.

That's when they discovered he had been shot in the head.

The man was transferred to the trauma center at VCMC where police say he is listed in guarded but stable condition.

Police are looking for the shooting suspect.
