Oxnard Gang Member Sentenced To 50-Years-To-Life For Committing Murder When He Was 17-Years-Old

Tuesday June 12, 2018

An Oxnard gang member was sentenced this week to 50-years-to-life in prison for committing a murder when he was just 17-years-old.

Justin Patino was convicted by a jury in March of first-degree murder in the June 2012 shooting death of 14-year-old Joshua Burciaga in a Saticoy Park.

Prosecutors say Patino was a gang member, Burciaga was not, but Patino mistakenly believed was and they say Patino executed him for the benefit of the gang.

They say Patino chased Burciaga down, wounding him with gunfire until the 14-year-old was on the ground pleading for his life and then Patino shot Burciaga in the head several times a point-blank range.

Prosecutors were able to try Patino in adult court.

His co-defendant in the killing accepted a plea deal and then rejected it so he is still awaiting trial.
