Officials Say Airport Director Death A Suicide

Monday November 5, 2018

The Ventura County Sheriff's Department says they believe the death of the County Airports Director last week was a suicide.

52-year-old Todd McNamee was in his personal automobile before dawn last Thursday morning when it crashed at a high rate of speed into a ditch at the west end of the runway at Camarillo Airport and burst into flames.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officials are not saying why they believe McNamee took his own life but he had been on medical leave for several months because of a serious illness and had just returned to work on a part-time basis.

McNamee had run the county airports in Camarillo and Oxnard for more than a decade.

He had been a commercial pilot and his coworkers said he loved airports and aviation.

McNamee is survived by a wife and their two children.
