Ventura County Sheriff's deputies say they had to use a Taser to subdue a mental health patient who had made threats about a former co-worker and fled from them both in a vehicle and on foot.
The deputies had been searching for the man when they found him Wednesday afternoon and tried to pull over his vehicle.
The man failed to yield and there was a vehicle pursuit that ended when the man fled from his vehicle on foot and into an orchard near Steckel Park north of Santa Paula.
Deputies chased the man on foot into the orchard and when they tried to take him into custody they say he refused to comply with their commands and threatened them with a stick.
That's when they deployed the Taser and took him into custody.
The man, who is in his 60's, was being medically cleared before deputies could determine if he should be returned to mental health or taken to the county jail.
