Detectives with the Ventura County Sheriff's Office say they've arrested a former employee of a Moorpark mortgage company for embezzling tens of thousands of dollars from the company.
They say that 40-year-old Joe Rodriguez of North Hollywood worked in the Human Resources Division of PennyMac Loan Services until he was laid off in March of this year for unrelated reasons.
Detectives say PennyMac management then discovered that Rodriguez, over a two year period, had allegedly embezzled thousands of dollars every month.
They allege that Rodriguez did that by altering the payroll earnings for several employees and then he stole the marked-up earnings for himself.
Thursday detectives from the Moorpark Investigations Bureau served a search warrant at his home and also a warrant ordering seizure of his assets in two bank accounts.
They say that Rodriguez was arrested and evidence, including a large amount of cash, was seized.
Rodriguez was booked into the Ventura County Jail on several counts of grand theft and money laundering with his bail set at $2 million.
