31-Year-Old Man Killed In Car-To-Car Shooting In El Rio

     Updated--The Ventura County Sheriff's Major Crimes Unit and their Crime Scene Investigators spent most of the night and Saturday morning investigating a fatal shooting in the unincorporated area of El Rio near Oxnard.

    Ventura County Sheriff's Captain Eric Hatlee told KVTA News it happened shortly after midnight Saturday morning and involved a car-to-car shooting.

   The victim, a 31-year-old Pete Mendez of Oxnard, was in one of the vehicles.

   He was struck by the gunfire and was rushed to the hospital where died from an apparent gunshot wound.

   Detectives said in a news release that the Mendez was in one vehicle traveling north on Alvarado Street when someone in another vehicle fired a shot that struck Mendez.

   Hatlee says this might be a gang related shooting but they don't know yet and investigators were still looking at all possibilities for a motive.

   They were also looking for information regarding suspects and a suspect vehicle.
